Aquarium Unit

We love our Aquarium unit!

We are making fish from heart-shapes.

We are scientist! We had an Aquarium Show to teach our families about ocean animals.

We are teaching our teachers about ocean animals.

We are working with a friend to learn about an ocean animal.

We are using lots of different things to show attributes of our animals.

We are teaching our families about what we learned.

We love to learn, and we love to teach!

We went to the Aquarium to learn about animals that live in the ocean.

We are learning about the ocean and animals that live in the ocean.

Math: We are exploring measuring. We can measure many different things.

We made a life-size whale, dolphin, and shark. We are measuring with cubes, blocks, and other math manipulatives. We can even measure our friends!

We can measure how heavy things are with a scale. We can measure how long things are with turtles and lobsters.

Science: Exploring water and experimenting.

We made fake-snow for the sand and water table. We made blue jello that looked like the ocean. We created a float or sink experiment, and we made different kinds of boats to see if they would float.

Blocks: Designing and building an aquarium.

We used blocks and ocean animals to build an aquarium in our classroom. We sorted the animals into different parts of the building and made labels to tell where each animal should go.

We are building science boxes for ocean animals. We are collecting things that teach us about the animals. We shared our boxes with our reading buddies. We measured our animals, read non-fiction books about them, and are learning about where they live, what they eat, and how they have babies.

Art: We are building jelly fish with long tentacles and painting under water pictures of the ocean.

Literacy: We are exploring letters and their sounds. We are using letters and sounds to read and write!

We build an aquarium puzzle and are labeling the animals. We went searching for letters in the sand table, we are using the Smart board to trace and learn letters.

We are reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

We act out the story on the felt board. We made our own coconut tree with letters. We are playing Chicka Chicka Bingo!

We are building the alphabet. Mrs. Hughes reads the story.

We uses letter punchers in reading centers. We love to dramatize stories in the puppet center, and we can build words with the letter fish.

Music and movement: Water Dancing

We are dancing with scarves. We are making a long river. Our scarves can also be little fish swimming or big ocean waves.
